Many Muslims in the United States and Western world are confused regarding the Halal food regulations being carried out at that place. Some even don't know whether Halal food regulations are imposed or no. According to the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America, the current sales have shoot up to $20, which has been tripled since the year 2010.

Regulations by Halal food industry is thinly distributed and practiced in the states of America. Out of 50 states only 9 states must be having Halal food regulations. In the year 2002, Illinois passed the Halal food Act which was opposed by many Islamic bodies due to difference in the opinions. But despite of all this all agreed on the terms that it includes prohibition of misrepresentation of Halal food and false labelling of the Halal products.

In America there have been many cases of misrepresentation by mislabelling the food items which affected the Muslims as well as Non-Muslims. In the year 2011, there was suit filled by McDonald’s franchise against the allegedly claiming that their food products like nuggets and sandwiches being Halal when they were not. McDonald’s had to pay a huge amount thalis $700,000 to settle the suit. Despite paying such a huge amount, McDonald’s continued to stand that they didn't mislabel the products.

The Department of Agriculture has established the Consumer Fraud Act in which the merchants who mislabel their goods are punishable under the regulations like the one practiced in Illinois. This act also states that the sellers who sell both Halal and Non-Halal food items should display a window sign showing that there is a combination of Halal and Non-Halal food items sold in the store. To prevent cross contamination, the utensils used for preparation of Non-Halal food items should not be used for the preparation of Halal Food items.

Similar to Illinois regulation, there are 8 other states in the United States practicing similar statues. These include the states of New York, Virginia, California, Texas, New Jersey, Minnesota, Maryland and Michigan. All these mentioned states mentioned above practice more or else similar practices and the difference might not be that important. The Muslim population is increasing all around the globe so it would be fair if more states start enforcing Halal food regulations for the benedictions of its residents which includes both Muslims as well as Non-Muslims.
